Climbing Independence Pass

Independence Pass

Buena Vista, Colorado

This is our last stop in Colorado before we head east.  On a cloudy, rainy day we took a drive up to Independence Pass.  The elevation is 12,095 feet.  I could certainly tell the air was thin.  The road continues on to Aspen but we turned around as the lightening and thunder were in the distance.  Beautiful ride, excellent alpine wildflowers and endless mountain views.  Yes, Brad was smiling all the way…..

As always, click on the pic to see it large.

Taylor River gazing

Taylor River

Gunnison, Colorado

We drove up Taylor Canyon along the Taylor River.  The river is still high from snow melt.  Yes, you can still see snow on the peaks of the Collegiate Mountains.  Lovely day with deep blue skies and warm temps.  This river is famous with fly fisherman and they were out enjoying this Sunday.  Gotta love Colorado.

Sisters to Silverton

Sisters

Ouray, Colorado

My sisters joined us in Ouray for a short but fun filled vacation.  We are on the million dollar highway to Silverton.  Stopped at all the waterfalls and river scenes.  They are the best.  Linda enjoyed her jeep tour into the famous Yankee Boy Basin and it’s world famous alpine wildflowers.  Weather is magnificent!

Big Smiles!

Brad & Merilee at Ophir PassSnow drift Ophir Pass CO

Ouray, Colorado

We had a very scenic jeep drive thru Ophir Pass at 11,789 elevation.  This is in the San Juan Mountains with many 14,000 foot peaks.   This the “Jeep Capital of USA.”  As you can see the big snow drifts still linger at higher elevations.

Rocky Mountain High, Colorado……

Brad in San Juan Mtns Colorado

Ouray, Colorado

Can you see the big smile on Brad’s face?  Yes, we drove up FSR535 to 12,000 to view these beautiful peaks of 14,000 footers.  Nice huh?

Tear Dropping

Dick and Sue, this hand made tear drop is for your enjoyment.  Seen in a KOA campground with lots of hand crafted extras.  Buffaloes roam the interior.
